Paint Party Friday and Rasz Bagz

Happy Paint Party Friday everyone,
and THANK YOU for stopping by.
I have not been participating very often and I miss all of you!

And an EXTRA Thank you to Kristin and Eva
for keeping this going on, for about 7 1/2 years now!
You two ROCK!!!

I have been busy and very tired for a while,
and have gotten a few things done.
Here are two of the latest Rasz Tote Bagz I have made:

Both of these Rasz Tote Bagz are sewn from natural color canvas, hand painted and embellished with flowers made from leftover painted canvas fabric and a little painted lace to give it a "vintage" look.
Both are approximately 12"x13.5"x2.5" with 2 14" straps.

I was also compelled to make a large book bag for one of the sweetest young ladies I know. She saw my 8 year old, beloved tote I still use all the time and mentioned she needed a large, extra sturdy book tote. She is so sweet and helpful to everyone that I wanted to gift her something.
I created it from what I knew of her:

Isn't she the cutest? I did get her permission to post this picture.

New Rasz Art Designs tags on one of the inside pockets
(before the pocket was sewn in):

I've found that Liquitex Matte Medium works great for keeping pieces of fabric together prior to sewing them down. I love this new way instead of pinning which can make thick fabric ripple.
Always nice to learn new tricks!

That's it for me creating and painting lately.
Hoping you are having a GREAT Paint Party Friday.

Big hugz, Rasz

Paint Party Friday - New Projects...

Happy Paint Party Friday!!! Huge thanks for our amazing hostesses with the mostesses, EVA  and Kristin for keeping this worldwide blog hopping party going on.  I am posting from my tablet for the first time and cannot locate the functions I need, yet. This post will probably get linked up a little late.

Here is my first and most important project:

This mailbox, that once marked the home of someone named Ray Long, will soon be upcycled into a vintage-looking mailbox for the guests at my Sissy's wedding to place their cards and best wishes!
This will be a very special and fun project. There won't be any in-progress pictures as it will be a surprise. The final piece will be posted after Sissy has it.

Next up is the unfinished Rasz Bagz that have been sitting next to my sewing machine for way too long. The sewing machine has a new name, Suzy Stitches.
What do you think? Here she is all cleaned up and ready to go to work:

Good thing Miss Suzy is ready because here is all the sewn and painted canvas still needing to be finished:

There are 8 Bagz there in different stages ready to go. Under Miss Suzy are totes full of hardware and embellishments. The sewing area along with the large table for essembling are in my bedroom. Yes it is a tight squeeze however great if I need to lay down or nap, hehe!

Have a great day and I look forward to seeing you today and tomorrow as I make my rounds visiting all of you that I haven't seen for a few weeks!

Big hugs, Rasz

Best Day of the week, Paint Party Friday!

Today is Friday,
which means it's "Paint Party Friday"
And I am posting!
What could be better than that,
except getting to visit all the bloggers playing today.

Thank you Kristin and EVA for hosting
Paint Party Friday
for lots of years now!
It's nice to know this party will be here every Friday
thanks to both of your hard works!

Here's my latest mixed media project on a 20"X24" wrapped canvas.

Sooo...I've not been really happy with my creations lately.
Maybe it's because of this cold/hot weather changes.
It always hurts my body.
Three days ago it was almost 100 degrees.
Today it may hit 70 degrees.
I know a lot of you can understand.

This mixed media piece has been fun and not so fun.
I add, I take away
and I have no idea if it's finished or not.

It needs "something".
I am definitely stuck.
Is anyone else stuck with a piece of artwork?

I love the hummingbirds.

They fight, eat and make cute babies.
Simple.
Here's a female and a youngster heading in to share
the feeder. They don't always fight,

Hope everyone is having a GREAT PPF!!!
Let me know how you get unstuck from a piece you are working on.
Have a GREAT week!

Paint Party Friday and a dedication to...

Hello World!
Once again it is my favorite day of the week, Friday.
That is as long as Paint Party Friday is still partying!
Thank you to our wonderful hosts, EVA and Kristin
for making Fridays such a special day for all us
Paint Party Friday Partiers and Players!

Have no idea what  I am talking about?
Go HERE, it will be worth it, I promise!

Today's post is dedicated to my
AWESOME, WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL, AMAZING
Crow Spirit Sister!
When you think of Crow's in the Art World,
most often her name is what comes to mind.
Yes, it's Stacy at MagicLoveCrow!
(if you haven't visited her lately, she has some great new art)

The reason I am dedicating this post to her is that several months or so ago she sent me a boxful of 8"x8" and 8"x10" reinforced, heavy duty, wrapped canvases!
She asked me the other day about them and I realized since my surgery, I have been posting most of my art on my Instagram (rasz_art_designs) and my Facebook Art Page (Rasz Art Designs) accounts So Stacy hasn't seen the art I have made from those canvases. So, time for me to stop typing and just show the art I have made on those treasured canvases:

This one came out blurry from having to gather all the photos from 3 devices to my computer.
It took me 2 hours and I opted to post the blurry one instead of trying to go through everything for another pic.
So, Stacy...here are 8 of the canvases. I have 2 more 8"x10" WIPs and a couple more canvases still in the wrapper. These Mixed-Media painting would never have been created without your gracious gifts and continued support and encouragement! I am SO blessed to have you, and your mom, in my life.

Below is an orange hummingbird that migrates each year
and has come back home in Spring for the last 2 years!
I am waiting for orange babies, maybe this year.

Happy PPF, Cinqo de Mayo and have a GREAT week!

Outsider Art - Being All Alone...

Happy Wednesday to you!

Today's Prompt, for the April-Prompt-A-Day Challenge, over at the Imaginary Garden's With Real Toads
is brought to us Challengers by Karin Gustafson (Sorry, I do not know her blog URL).
The Challenge is to use "Outsider Art" from someone else or write about what it is like to be an "Outsider" or "Alone".

I am choosing "Alone" today.
The picture below is my own. I went to my sink a few weeks back and saw the dirty dishes sitting in the sink just as they are in the photo. It reminded me of how alone I have felt during my recovery from surgery and now something pinching nerves in my back (MRI later today).

My recovery has been a long one compared to other surgeries I have had. Also I live alone now and do not have a significant other. I have not been able to do anything that involves my core muscles, so basically I can just hang out, try to work at art or the Challenges and that's pretty much it.

I do have my oldest son in my neighborhood who has been a great help, my Sissy who comes over any time she gets a chance and usually brings some great goodies with her, along with doing my dishes, washing clothes or anything else that may need doing. I have several friends that I talk to (and the most special one will be reading this today!), listen to music I love, and laugh often.

However being alone can be dangerous for the mind, body and spirit if not kept in check. Alone can be a choice, a health issue or being an outsider of a community we want to belong to.

The heart, the mind, the body
All three so closely aligned
If not careful to tend to each of them
One by one will be lost in short time

SO...

There is always a time when life goes right
To paint, to laugh, to dance
Breathing and loving every moment of that
And never ignoring the chance

Hope you have a GREAT day and can find a reason to smile, to laugh, to reach out, no matter where you may be at.

BIG HUGZ, RASZ

Protest and Outrage: Dark Poetry For the Cruelest Month 2017

Focusing and thinking was not happening this week.
The thought of not posting this year made my heart cry.
So here I am, for Magaly's Annual Dark Poetry for the
Cruelest Month 2017!

And even at this late entry,
I MADE IT!!!

It amazes me how fast protection can be taken away yet how long it takes to get it. I certainly do not want to be political here, it's not just politics. It's money, it's payoffs for whoever is the highest bidder. I live on the edge of one of our most beautiful National Forrest in the United States and a cars drive to several others. People are the most dangerous. They want these National Parks yet can disrespect and desecrate them on their yearly camping trips. It's just one little trickle in the poisoned rivers we are creating. Which is where my poem this evening came from.

taking years for the saving
one swipe of a pen
the salvation is now gone

This has been a great theme for this week and I have read some great poems.
Thank you Magaly!

Have a wonderful week!

30/30 in April-The April Prompt-A-Day Challenge...

Hello!
I am posting today for the April Prompt-A-Day Challenge!
The poem a day challenge from the awesome
If you enjoy poetry in all its wonderful forms,
or, like me and just discovering poetry,
go visit  Kerry's blog!

The Challenge today is to write about love with an object that represents love. The poem shared for today on Imaginary Garden with Real Toads is great!

The Heart-Shaped Rock

Do you remember, years ago
Finding our first heart-shaped rock
We held it so tightly in our hands
bringing it home from our magical walk

Do you remember years ago
Taking the dogs for their evening walk
I rarely looked up, as I was on a hunt
To find another heart-shaped rock

Do you remember years ago
Me always hunting for those heart-shaped rocks
I poured all my faith of our love, my dear
for every one I found on our magical walks

No, you cannot remember years ago
The story of the heart-shaped rocks
For, alas, that was just a dream I had
of you and I on a magical walk.

Notes: I hope my writing is poetry, please let me know.
I hunted for a picture of my heart-shaped rocks
I could not find one and no time to take one if
I wanted to post. It just wasn't meant to be.

Happy Paint Party Friday!!!

First off, I want to thank everyone who has sent me
prayers & healing thoughts my way.
I know all of your good wishes have contributed
to my recovery, and my heart!

Well this is my 2nd PPF post in a row and I am hoping
to be back on track with posting and visiting!
Thank you to our wonderful hostesses
EVA and Kristin! You guys ROCK!!!

Not sure what Paint Party Friday is?
Go HERE and learn all about it,
then join in on the fun.

I have been into birch trees lately.
I just finished one painting yesterday!
It feels so good to paint.
And of course I do paint things a bit differently.
That's just me.

There is lots of texture on the trees, from the collage of paper
underneath. The background is painted on top of the collage base.
I left the background with a matte finish.
I was really happy how this turned out.
You can click on this mixed-media painting
and get a closer look if you like.

Wednesday night and yesterday brought some hard rains,
hail and strong winds.
I always like to check on my hummingbird friends.
It's amazing how these little tiny beauties
can make it through the cold and storms.

Here they are yesterday fighting over their place on the feeder.
It was raining and if you look close you can see raindrops
on those cute long beaks.

fighting for a place on the feeder

And here they are once the little altercation was over:

Rare moment with no fighting at the feeder
It was raining pretty hard when I took this picture,
Their feathers were wet & mostly females and youngsters
in this picture so not a lot of colors.

That's it for me today.
Going to (hopefully) link this post to up to
Just need to figure out how to add links.

Happy Paint Party Friday
and Have a Wonderful Week!
See ya' next Friday, or maybe before.

Poem Sketching...

My very first painting of my Dragonfly Girls in 2011

Today's prompt for the "The April Prompt-a- Day Challenge"
is to write a poem using Poem Sketching.
The instructions are a little long,
so if you would like to know more
please go HERE!

I LOVE this Challenge.
I am learning so much about poetry!

The words I chose are
dragonfly, pond, safe, silence

The Dragonfly Pond

There is a dragonfly at my window
He beckons me outside
It's nightfall and so dark, I say
Then out the window I slide

I flew with him, I am not sure how
To a pond so beautiful and bright
With thousands of dragonflies flying about
Creating the most magnificent sight

See, he says, I have no intention to harm you
Only to bring you here
Your ancestors are all around you now
You are safe, please have no fear

My ancestors, what was he saying
There were no ghostly humans here
The dragonflies, he told me, are always with you
In silence I sat, watching the magic appear

Their artistry was magnificent
Their colors, oh so bright
Yet it was their magical teachings
That brought me to the pond tonight

Comments and critiquing are joyfully welcomed.
Hope the beginning of your week
is off to a great start!

Twitter Me A Gothic Poem...

Today's poetry challenge over at
Imaginary Garden with Real Toads is brought to us by the
beautiful and amazing writer, Magaly Guerrero.
Please go HERE for more info on today's challenge.
And HERE for Magaly's blog.

In a nutshell, so to speak, the Challenge was to use the words of two famous Poets and pretend that the two of them are having a Tweet together using a three line stanza for each, then our Challenge is for us to complete the poem using the third stanza, in our own words to join the conversation by replying/our input/or a commentary.

I have spent all day reading poems from Poets throughout the centuries and really enjoyed it.
When it came to a Tweet (aka 3 line stanza) of two poets together, The two I could imagine corresponding (or understanding each other) would be Sylvia Plath and Edgar Allan Poe.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moonstruck, kissed me quite insane
(I think I made you up in my head)

Is it therefore the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream

Alas I see two lovers,
Alone yet won't admit,
True love forms from insane minds

References:
“Mad Girl’s Love Song” by Sylvia Plath
“Dream Within a Dream” by Edgar Allen Poe

I hope this will suffice for today's Challenge.
I am a newbie when it comes to poetry,
which explains the past 6 hours of reading
some really great and twisted poems.

And, as always, please critique if needed.

Thank you and have a great week!

Oh Happy Paint Party Friday!

Good Afternoon PPF Partiers!
Hope everyone is doing great today,
Thank you Eva and Kristin for being
the hostesses with the most-est.
If you want to know what Paint Party Friday is
go HERE!

I've been gone a while recouping from surgery.
Mostly laying in a recliner most of the time,
and doing a little art from there too.
I'm going to apologize in advance for the upcoming pictures.
It's overcast and rainy and the house lighting
isn't the best for taking pictures.

First, Look what Tracy from tracywoodsford.blogspot.com
sent me to cheer me up:

She also included three Derwent colored pencils that I forgot to take a photo of because they are already with my other pencils and being used!
Awesome colored pencils!
In the picture above you can see five amazing papers too,
I think they are too pretty to use.

Here's a breakdown:
Tracy's beautiful artwork that I can't wait to frame and hang up.
It says "If You Have Wings...Fly". It's so prettier than a picture of it.

Tracy made this beautiful card.
It says "Sometimes You Just Need To Play"

A Beautiful Handmade Stamp and part of her cute
business card.

My brother-in-law to be bought me a set of Faber-Castell Graphite Pencils.
I used them for the first time last night to get an idea of what I can do with more than just one graphite pencils, hehe!

And a couple of days ago I watched a YouTube video
from Maremi SmallArt called "Toilet Paper Rolls Dandelion
Painting Technique for Beginners"
It's a great video and Maremi is so cute!
Here is what I created after watching the video:

It was so much fun painting this with Blick Studio Acrylic Paints,
which I am in love with! The colors are bright and fun!
It was painted on an 8"x10" Canson Canva Art Board,
which come in a pad of 10. Another new favorite!

I have an Instagram account I post in almost every day:
rasz_art_designs
Stop by and visit and I will do the same.
Every post also goes to my Facebook Art Page:
Rasz Art Designs

Thank you for stopping by.
Have a Fantastic Paint Party Friday,
and a Wonderful Weekend.
Hugs, Rasz

Speaking for Springs Stillborn Sprouts...

Hi everyone, I have missed being here.
There is no better way to jump back in
then with a Challenge!
There is the April Prompt-A-Day Poetry Challenge.
Click HERE  or HERE for more info.

Today is a Free For All, no real prompt of sorts.
Which worked out GREAT for me
as I woke up with the words in my head
to yesterday's Prompt by the Beautiful Magaly.
"Speaking for Springs Stillborn Sprouts".

Mourning My Babies

Oh the sunshine these past weeks
Has felt so good upon my limbs
The snow and ice have melted
New life will soon begin

My babies are sprouting
In this early Spring's sunlight
Precious they are, so sweet and small
Such a beautiful, wondrous sight

Now the cold and ice are back again
To freeze my limbs once more
My baby sprouts are dying
It's my babies now I mourn

The past few years have tricked us
The weather's not the same
We awake to think it's Springtime
And those humans are to blame

They call it global warming
I hear them talk as they go by
My precious babies, frozen dead now
I mourn under the cold grey sky

Thank you for stopping by, Rasz

On a personal note:
I was so excited about this Challenge.
I love to write, and I love to write poetry,
altho' I do not know if I have a "real" style
and am hoping to find out.
I welcome constructive critiquing (nicely please)

Last few days of 29faces and Paint Party Friday...

Happy Paint Party Friday!!!
(actually it is Saturday)
It's also the last few days of the
29 Faces of February 2017 Challenge.

Thank you to Kristin and Eva for being the
Best Hostesses for Paint Party Friday every week!
Need more info? Click HERE!

And many thanks to Martha at Ayala Art for
the 29Faces Blog http://29faces.blogspot.com.
It's been great to discover my personal ways of creating faces.

Okay, onto art...not much as I seem to keep attempting
backgrounds with either lots and lots of layering,
even over a previous rose:

This 8"x10" wrapped canvas has had four different butterflies, and probably six layers of colored tissue paper, paint and now Ranger's Tim Holtz's Idea-ology paper. At this rate, this mixed media mess will have at least and inch or two added to it's size.

Another background with the same Ranger's Tim Holtz paper covering up layers of gesso which is covering up a couple of butterflies that have bled through every attempt of covering them up until now.

Now I am stuck and have no idea what to do with this.
Maybe more paint and paper???

I have been doing the 29 Faces of February 2017 and there is only a couple days left. I love this Challenge because, for me, it's finding my own style and that is what I focused on for the month. I have been posting daily on Insagram (rasz_art_designs) and on my art Facebook page,  https://www.facebook.com/raszartdesigns/

I have only one graphite pencil left and one blending stick.

The pencil is a Progresso Woodless Graphite 6B.

Here are two faces that I really love.
I think I have found my style for faces:

I still draw my colorful characters too.
I will always do that and included several of them in the Challenge.

I am having surgery this coming week and will be in the hospital on my birthday,
which is why I wanted to post today.
Yesterday was pre-op stuff for me, and I had too much on my mind to be able to post.

So I will see you in a few weeks, hopefully with some more drawings or paintings or even a story or two. I have FINALLY started to write! It feels great!

It's a rainy Paint Party Friday and 29faces...

I'm coming in a little late,
so I will probably be visiting everyone all weekend.

As always, this wonderful weekly party
is hosted by the fantastic duo...
Eva and Kristin!
Need more info? Have no idea what PPF is?
Go HERE and join in the fun.

I do not have any finished creations,
so I am going to share my WIPs!
(works in process)

My Sissy was helping me rearrange my
Front Room/Art Sudio.
While doing so, my Sissy found this, hidden next to my art table.
I never finished it since I find painting with red was a little difficult for me and I really didn't like it anyway.

Sissy reminded me that just because I don't like it doesn't mean everyone won't.
Perfect for the Big "V" week and since I put it on my art table yesterday, I have already gotten two compliments on this mixed media piece. I even see it now. Good thing I didn't throw it away.

I also have the beginnings of one of my ooey, gooey, textured mixed media paintings. I am really excited to get creating. This too was hidden next to my art table, a happy find!

All the pictures I took of this looked blurry so this was the best of the bunch.
It only has a couple layers so far,Soon it will be a thick, textured mixed media painting.
Oh, the suspense of it all,,,

For the 29faces of February 2017, this face was created by the finished face on the opposite page of my sketchbook. I never had that happen before so I found it pretty cool!

I think I will just outline the features showing and see how it looks.

I missed out on the Sixth Annual Valentines Day Soiree
hosted by Holly at hollyshorrorland.com.
I had a story written (that was way too long) and created a drawing of the happy couple headed off to the party. Deciding to color the cute couple, the black colored pencil wasn't anywhere to be found. Ugh! Great idea though, paint markers...one arm colored on the Vampiress' dress and all was ruined.
Note to self: NEVER , EVER use paint markers on sketch pad paper.
I became impatient and didn't think of what I was doing.
We missed the party (sniff, sniff).

That's my week for today's Paint Party Friday!
See everyone soon as I will be blog hopping in between layers of creating my next fun,
shiny, mixed-media art.
Happy PPF & Happy 29faces
and most of all have a GREAT week!
