wine bottle tote for two...

Wine anyone?
I had a lot of fun, and discovered some new techniques creating this one.

This tote is perfect for bottles bought while out wine tasting,
for bringing a couple bottles to a dinner party,
and sturdy enough for taking on a a picnic.

It is made from a sturdy canvas tote, painted with acrylic and fabric paint
and embellished with grapes, vines and leaves made from painted canvas.

I made this tote for my surgeon.
He and his family own a winery. I have no idea how they find the time.
He is one of the most giving, compassionate, caring doctors I have ever met.
Throughout his many years practicing, he has helped hundreds of people
without regards to their ability to pay.

I hope he and his wife enjoy it.
They are wonderful people.

I hope your Monday is starting your week off GREAT!!!!

feed them and they will come, plus a great diy blog...

What turned out to be two cute little hummingbirds visiting the feeder in front of the kitchen window has turned into too many birds to count along with a morning and evening fighting & feeding frenzy.

All of these pictures were taken through the kitchen window (that I really did clean :)).
Now can someone tell me how to get a Nikon COOLPIX camera to take faster pictures.
These little guys are quick...especially when chasing each other from the feeder.
The females are so much nicer and will share the feeder.

OH! Through Pinterest I found this great DIY blog!
Her blog is full of DIY ideas, patterns, tutorials and there is even an e-book for photography for bloggers (that I REALLY need).
I think you'll enjoy her blog and be pinning lots if you're on Pinterest.

Have a GREAT day!

my friendly reminder...

I have been continually forgetting to put my new handmade RaszArt and fabric content/washing instruction labels in the fabric totes I have been making.
Trust me, its much easier to put them in while making something than trying to add them after the project is complete.
Maybe this "little" reminder on my sewing machine will help?
I also have a similar one on my art table and cork board reminding me to sign my work.
I really need notes up to help me remember.
(I'll know it's bad when I have to label the refrigerator)

I tried something new.
I thought it would be cool to spray paint a tote and add words to get that Urban Style.
I hung a pre-made tote on my easel and shot it with some fabric paints that come in those cute little plastic spray bottles.

I didn't realize how far those little bottles would spray, so after getting spray on my iPod, speakers, cell phone, the wall, and table and chair behind me, I got a great idea to hang some canvas up off the back of the easel.
(ok....duhhh! I earned that one)

Didn't like what it looked like so I went outside to hear the birds and sounds of the world waking up.

Look how green and shimmery this hummingbird is!

Then I saw this the wall:
Now this is one cool moth!

A loud BUZZZZ broke into the morning sounds...it got louder and louder.
The wasps were out, there must of been a swarm of them it was so loud.
After following the sound to find out the cause, it turned out to be the LOUDEST fly I have ever heard!
One fly, that was it and here HE is:
Can you see him? That iddy-biddy speck on the board.
Hopefully he doesn't have relatives coming to visit.

Have a great day!

Please share what is exciting in your area as Spring begins?
Oh, if you want a fly let me know...free shipping!

kindness...

This is a re-post from 4/13/2011.
Wow, 2 years ago and I had barely been blogging for a month.
I had joined the 2011 A-Z Blog Challenge (which was great).
My life was amazingly different then,
it's interesting and sometimes sad to look back.

I am re-posting this to remind myself that no matter what I am going through,
no matter who may be trying to make things difficult,
no matter what obstacles I may be facing...
Being kind to myself and others is the best way to live each day!
Here's the post except I added the last quote today,

"Forget injuries, never forget kindness."
Confucius

"Kindness in words creates confidence.
Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.
Kindness in giving creates love."
Lao Tzu

"Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see."
Mark Twain

"Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness."
Seneca

"Kindness is in our power, even when fondness is not."
Samuel Johnson

and my all time favorite to those grumpy people in our paths:
"Kill 'em with Kindness"
author unknown

Wishing you a day filled with giving and receiving kindness.

hummingbirds...

Since the weather was so sunny, I took my newest tote outside for some pictures.
I laid the bag out on the table right below the hummingbird feeder.

Forget about the bag...this was awesome:

Have a beautiful day!

Oh, and I added the "Pin it" icon to all my pictures. If you see something you would like to Pin to your Pinterest Board, hover your mouse over the picture and the "Pin it" icon will appear!

spring has sprung...

Here in Northern California, the flowers sprout up through the cracks of the rock outcroppings.
The beautiful mossy covered rocks are as magnificent as the colors of the seasons that surround them.

I remember reading Louis L'Amour books when I was a young child living in Ohio. His description of this area's terrain perfectly described where I now live. I love to look across a field or on the side of a hill and see these amazing rocks shooting out of the ground as if they are missiles ready for take off.

The gladiolas and tulips are budding now.
Soon the yard will be even fuller of bright, luscious
Springtime colors.

I have been sick this past week so I painted some totes and made some flowers, but got very little else done.

Tell me how Spring is showing her beauty where you live?
